Fresh food shipping & freight services

Keeping perishable produce fresh in transit is the fundamental challenge of the food industry – a challenge met by LeShuttle Freight every day.

Why choose LeShuttle Freight for your constant fresh shipping?

Our constant fresh shipping services enable farmers and food producers across the UK and mainland Europe to consistently deliver high quality produce to shelves. Due to the speed, reliability, safety and sustainability of LeShuttle Freight, use of the Channel Tunnel continues to grow among the fresh food sector. Crossing times are just 35 minutes between our Folkestone and Calais terminals, so customers know they can rely on us in their cold chain network.

By comparison, ferry freight from Dover takes at least 90 minutes.

How does LeShuttle Freight handle constant fresh freight?

With up to six departures per hour, operating 365 days a year, we provide the service flexibility fresh food producers are looking for. Plus, with over 30 years experience of carrying perishables to and from France, we have built trusted relationships with customers.

As long as your drivers have the correct paperwork for their consignment, there should be no delays at the terminal. Freight moves quickly through our smooth border controls, and we will allocate the shuttle that meets your needs. FIRST account holders also benefit from priority boarding for their drivers.

All we ask is that after parking up in the shuttle, drivers turn off all refrigerated units in their vehicle.

What happens during the crossing?

Drivers travel in an air-conditioned ‘Club Car’ where they can relax during the crossing. The time drivers spend in the Club Car counts as a mandatory break in their tachograph, so they can be on their way as soon as they exit our terminal after the crossing.

Frequently asked questions

How do you keep perishable food fresh using LeShuttle Freight?

For safety reasons we ask all drivers to switch off the power to their refrigerated containers when they board their shuttle. This does not impact the condition of fresh cargo during the crossing time of 35 minutes.

Do I need to book a crossing time with LeShuttle Freight?

No. If you have a freight account with us, you don’t have to book. Just make sure your company’s fleet details are up to date before using our service. You only need to book if you do not have a freight account, or if you are travelling in a van. Vans use the LeShuttle passenger service.

What paperwork will our drivers need for fresh produce?

It is your responsibility to ensure sure you have the necessary documentation for your freight. The specific rules on marketing standards and plant health controls for your consignment should also be consulted.
