Why choose LeShuttle Freight for your automotive shipping
Automotive logistics can be complex, but here at LeShuttle Freight we make things simple.
How do vehicles get shipped with LeShuttle Freight?
Automotive freight companies are some of our most frequent customers. We ship a huge number of vehicles this way every year, and we have been doing it since 1994.
Reliability, security and safety are key elements of the LeShuttle Freight experience, and we take the utmost care with your cargo. So if it’s new electric vehicles, for example, you’ll need to provide the appropriate documentation and ensure all the correct procedures have taken place, especially with regards to battery safety.
Before your crossing
Simply book your crossing as normal – if you have a freight account with us, you don’t even need to book! Just make sure your company’s fleet details are up to date before using our service. When your driver arrives at our Folkestone or Calais terminals our systems will recognise their registration plate, and after border controls, security and check-in we will direct them onto our first available shuttle.
During and after the crossing
After parking up in the shuttle, drivers exit their truck. All electrical systems (including refrigeration units) have to be switched off. Drivers travel in an air-conditioned ‘Club Car’ where they can relax during the 35-minute crossing.
The great advantage with shipping automotive freight with LeShuttle Freight is the speed of getting across the Channel, and our smooth motorway to motorway transfer. The time drivers spend in the Club Car counts as a mandatory break in their tachograph, so they can be on their way as soon as they exit our terminal after the crossing.
Frequently asked questions
Are vehicles safe on LeShuttle Freight?
Yes. We ensure all the correct safety procedures take place, whether your vehicles are being shipped in open or covered trailers.
Does our driver stay inside their truck?
No. Drivers spend the 35-minute crossing in the ‘Club Car’, with other freight drivers. This carriage has free WiFi, and the time spent here counts as the driver’s designated break time.
Is using LeShuttle Freight quicker than a ferry?
Yes. The ferry crossing from Dover to Calais takes at least 90 minutes, whereas using the Channel Tunnel with LeShuttle Freight is only a 35-minute crossing.
