Customs clearance

All goods destined for or originating from a non-EU country will require UK customs clearance, which is a compulsory process which all drivers will be required to comply with in order to use LeShuttle Freight.

What UK customs clearance will I need?

All drivers will need to provide their shipping document, supplier’s commercial invoice and packing list.

Depending on the goods you are carrying, you may be required to present additional information, such as a certificate of origin, preference certificates or a certificate of authenticity.

Drivers should always check in advance what documentation is required for customs clearance in order to avoid unnecessary delays.

Goods can be processed at Stop 24 Folkestone services located at junction 11 off the M20.

Mandatory customs barcode documents

In order to ensure a smooth and hassle-free crossing, we have produced some useful guides so that your drivers can easily understand which customs documents with a barcode are required on each terminal when carrying goods (except for postal goods only).

Customers who have a Border Pass do not need to present any documents for customs checks.

Sanitary and PhytoSanitary documents

We also remind you that when transporting animal and plant origin products, in addition to MRN/ barcodes, a DSCE/CHED (EU sanitary document) is mandatory when travelling from the UK to France.

We strongly advise that the DSCE/CHED reference is included in the Border Pass so that your drivers save valuable time on arrival at Centre Douane SIVEP, as the inspection process can start whilst the vehicle is on its way.

Important customs clearance reminders

Please note that empty vehicles carrying postal goods MUST be notified at Pit Stop or in the Border Pass, even if no customs document is required.

Make sure your drivers are aware of the exit routes for their vehicle on arrival in France, by using the Driver Info App.

Centre Douane SIVEP

The Centre Douane SIVEP is a dedicated centre for customs and sanitary inspections at the LeShuttle Freight terminal in Calais. If drivers are transporting sanitary and phytosanitary goods or are directed to follow the orange lane on arrival in France, the Eurotunnel Border Service team will facilitate the required inspections.

What happens at the Centre Douane SIVEP?

Goods of animal or plant origin entering the EU from the UK must be inspected by SIVEP, and any driver carrying these goods with LeShuttle freight will have an orange customs status. Drivers may also receive orange status for a customs check or document check. These inspections are made by authorities at the Centre Douane SIVEP, and can assist drivers with FR/EU import formalities (customs and sanitary). The Centre Douane SIVEP is open 24/7 and the Eurotunnel Border Service team are available to assist customers.
